Remembering Laura Trinder

Memory from Amy de Feyter

Laura was so purely joyous for others blessings. I remember so vividly when I told her that I was pregnant with Quinn - she was so happy that her eyes filled with tears, and she gave me such a big, warm hug that it made me even more excited than I already was. Because of this, I looked so forward to telling her when I became pregnant with Faye - I couldn't wait for one of her big Laura hugs.

Laura was thoughtful. When I was laid in bed recovering from knee surgery, I received a message from Laura that she had left me something at the door. She had carefully put together a care package, including a magazine, flowers, and a meal.

Laura was first and foremost a mother who protected the hearts of her girls. I remember years ago when I was still getting to know Laura, we were at a gathering and an adult used foul language while children were nearby at play. She briskly and confidently said “we don’t swear around my kids”, just like that, a matter of fact.

Laura was a present friend. She would always remember things we had talked about and ask about them later. Little things like “how did your sewing project go?”. And despite her being so sick and in pain, she would ask me how I was feeling during my pregnancy. Only she could be so selfless.

She was the best. I will miss her as my friend. I will miss her hugs, her honest joy for our blessings, her humour, and the love she showed our family endlessly. I will miss being able to ask her for parenting advice, because I need to know how she raised daughters with such beautiful hearts. She has inspired me to be a better mother and friend. She is a legacy.
